Body material

Uses spruce wood panels and Meranti bottom and side panels.

Gysen uses imported Engelman spruce, which grows in the mountainous regions of western North America. Engelman spruce is lightweight, soft, has a straight grain, and a pale yellow color that doesn't easily darken. It is characterized by a bright, sharp, and mature tone, with a richer midrange than commonly found Sitka spruce.

Spruce has a longer break-in time, and the longer the player uses it, the better the guitar's tone can be developed. Spruce is generally used for the top of mid-to-high-end guitars, producing a crisp sound, suitable for strumming chords and playing while singing.

Meranti is the Indonesian name for woods in the genus *Shorea*. Another common name for Meranti is Lauan, and it is sometimes also called Philippine Mahogany. Meranti wood is hard and produces a clear, resonant tone, and is generally used as a substitute for mahogany. The renowned Japanese brand YAMAHA uses this material for the back and sides of some entry-level guitars.
