It's only pocket-sized, yet it contains the classic overdrive sound of the mid-90s.
Design Concept
Klon Centaur, a legendary brand among overdrive effects pedals, has been one of the most popular effects pedals among guitarists worldwide since its release in the 1990s. Its wide, open, and natural overdrive tone captivates users. Due to its iconic centaur logo, it is affectionately known as "Certain Horse" overdrive by users in China.
The Klon Centaur overdrive pedal was initially priced at $225, a price that remains high even 30 years later for an overdrive pedal. In 2009, after production ceased, the final price of the Klon was $329. Since then, the price of used Klon Centaur pedals has skyrocketed. A single R&B overdrive pedal now fetches up to $3,000 on the secondhand market and continues to rise, making the Klon Centaur a veritable "investment product" in the effects pedal world.
Driven by a relentless pursuit of sound quality and as a tribute to that great era, NUX introduced the HORSEMAN dual-mode overdrive effect.
Golden Horse and Silver Horse
NUX HORSEMAN is not a simple copy; it has two working modes: Gold Horse and Silver Horse.
The Gold Horse mode primarily simulates the classic Klon Centaur Gold Horse effect, while the Silver Horse mode expands upon the overdrive tone of the Klon Centaur Silver Horse effect.
You can quickly switch modes using the pedal. The initial state is Gold Horse mode. Press the pedal for a long time until the green light on the top of the effect pedal lights up to switch to Silver Horse mode. Press the pedal for a long time again to switch back to Gold Horse mode.
Compared to the transparent and bright overdrive tone of the Golden Horse, the Silver Horse mode offers more gain. The HORSEMAN dual-mode design greatly expands the versatility of the effects pedal, making it suitable for a wider range of playing styles.

The NUX HORSEMAN uses two Schottky diodes for clipping, and the Gain knob features a dual-stage linkage design. This means that as you adjust the Gain, the low and mid frequencies will also change accordingly, and the mixed output ratio of the overdrive signal and the dry signal will also change synchronously, resulting in a wide and natural overdrive tone.
In addition, HORSEMAN offers two connection modes: TrueBypass and Buffer. When using an effect alone, TrueBypass mode ensures no signal loss even when the effect is off. If you are using multiple effects in a chain, switch to Buffer mode to prevent signal loss in the effect chain.
You can switch between the two modes using the foot switch and the power supply. Press and hold the foot switch while plugging in the power supply to turn on the device. You can switch between the two modes: red for TrueBypass mode and green for Buffer mode.
