Design Concept
The Klon Centaur, a legendary overdrive pedal brand, has been a favorite among guitarists worldwide since its release in the 1990s. Its wide, open, and natural overdrive tones captivate users. Due to its iconic Remy Martin logo, Chinese users affectionately call it "Remy Martin Overdrive."
The Klon Centaur overdrive pedal was originally released for $225, a price that, even 30 years later, remains quite high for an overdrive pedal. In 2009, after the pedal was discontinued, its final price was $329. Since then, used Klon Centaur pedal prices have skyrocketed. Currently, a Centaur overdrive pedal fetches over $3,000 and continues to rise. The Klon Centaur has become a valuable asset in the pedal world.
Out of the persistent pursuit of sound and paying tribute to that great era, NUX launched the HORSEMAN dual-mode overdrive effects pedal.
Golden Horse and Silver Horse
NUX HORSEMAN is not a simple copy, it has two working modes: Golden Horse and Silver Horse.
The Golden Horse mode mainly simulates the classic Klon Centaur Golden Centaur effect pedal, while the Silver Horse mode expands the overdrive sound of the Klon Centaur Silver Centaur effect pedal.
You can quickly switch between modes using the footswitch. Initially, it's in Golden Horse mode. Press and hold the footswitch until the green light above the pedal turns on, switching to Silver Horse mode. Press and hold again to switch back to Golden Horse mode.
Compared to the transparent, bright overdrive sound of the Golden Horse mode, the Silver Horse mode has more gain. The HORSEMAN dual-mode design greatly broadens the applicability of the effect pedal, making it suitable for a wider range of playing styles.

NUX HORSEMAN uses two Schottky diodes for clipping, and the Gain knob adopts a dual-stage linkage design. This means that when you adjust the Gain, the low and mid-frequency frequencies will also change with the Gain adjustment. At the same time, the mixed output ratio of the overdriven signal and the dry signal will also change synchronously, resulting in a wide and natural overdriven tone.
In addition, HORSEMAN offers two connection modes: TrueBypass (lossless pass-through) and Buffer! When using a single effect pedal, TrueBypass mode ensures no signal loss, even when the effect pedal is turned off. If you're chaining multiple effects pedals, you can switch to Buffer mode to prevent signal loss in the chain.
You can switch between the two modes using the footswitch and power. Pressing the footswitch while plugging in the power cord switches between the two modes. A red indicator light indicates TrueBypass mode, while a green indicator light indicates Buffer mode.
